Spring Term 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you to all our parents and care givers - this has been a whirlwind of a half term and we all feel as though we have fitted 8 weeks into a 6 week term so I know all the children and staff are definitely ready for their half term break.

Monday 24th February is an INSET Day and therefore school is closed to pupils. It will again be a busy half term and we will see our Nursery children perform an Easter presentation for parents as well as their Easter Bonnet parade with Reception. We have on line safety workshops coming up for parents and pupils, Maths Mastery Parent and Children (PACT) workshops, International Language Day, Red Nose Day, our Easter Discos and at the end of the term we will see Year 3 children present their Easter Service at Beacon Church.

We hope you all have a lovely week sharing happy times with your children, families and friends.

Year 6 visit to Laches Wood

Our Year 6 visited Laches Wood for their Residential Visit last week. Despite the cold, it stayed mostly dry for them and they were able to explore a range of different activities including bmx-ing, axe throwing, archery, abseiling and activities by torchlight!

Thank you to all the staff who gave up their own time to accompany the children and we hope everyone gets a well deserved rest over the half term break!

Lucy Renshall - British Judo

We were fortunate to have a visit from Lucy Renshall last week. The British Judo Champion and Team GB member led an assembly for our Key Stage 2 children where she spoke about her sporting journey, demonstrated some of her skills and also allowed some children to demonstrate theirs! She currently holds 13 gold medals, some of which she brought in to show the children.

Changes in outdoor PE days

Please note that we have had to make some changes to the days children participate in outdoor PE.

A separate letter will follow regarding these changes - however the days for PE can be seen in the grid below.

Safer Internet Day

Using the internet safely and positively is a key message that we promote at our school. We celebrated Safer Internet Day this week to emphasise the online safety messages we deliver throughout our Computing and PSHE Curriculum. Children across the school completed online safety lessons and we held Safer Internet Day assemblies.

Here is a game that can be played together to develop and enhance online safety awareness:

Interland

This is an educational game made by Google to help teach children about a range of online safety concerns, it has lessons on cyberbullying, phishing, data protection, and more. Every separate online safety skill is split into a different area in the game and your children learn through a variety of mini-games and quizzes. Interland is designed for children aged 8 to 12 years

We will be holding parent workshops after the half term break and would strongly advise you to sign up to hear more about the challenges children face in this digital world and how we can protect them.

Dance Festival

Our Dance Festival went ahead on Thursday this week

All children performed really well and judging by all the smiles, they thoroughly enjoyed the experience. As did the staff - some more than others!

Dance is a really important part of the PE curriculum - it helps children develop control, coordination, balance and poise as well as performing movements or patterns and responding to music or rhythm.

Thank you for your support with this event and we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!

Parents and Carers Consultation

Thank you to all parents and carers for attending our Consultation evening. We received some very positive feedback regarding the changes in arrangements and how smoothly the evenings went. Thank you to our Year 6 Badgeholders who were kept busy making sure all parents knew where they were going and returning books to teachers!

Year 5/6 Boys Football

This week the boys Y5/6 football team went to Bloxwich Academy. Although they played very well, they lost 3-0.

The game was closely contested but Bloxwich took their chances whereas we were unable to find the back of the net.  The boys never gave up and represented the school well.

Year 5/6/ Girls football

Last Week the Y5/6 girls football team played against Bloxwich Academy. Once again , it was a closely contested game but we lost 3 -2.

The girls did extremely well as we let in 2 early goals, they kept their heads up and got themselves back in the game but then conceded a third goal late in the second half.

Inourplace

Inourplace is funded in our area to provide your family with free access to expert learning about childhood development, wellbeing, brain changes, and much more to help you to connect with your children and make sure they thrive.

There’s a quick round up of what we think might be worth having a look at on Inourplace this month.

Achievement Awards for showing the 3 Rs - Respect, Responsibility and Readiness to Learn

When children are noticed in school for displaying the 3Rs and also for the effort they put in to their work, they receive House points which are collected in an Achievement book. When their Achievement book is completed, children's names go into a prize draw at the end of the half term.

Mrs Arnold has pulled the names out the hat for this half term and the following children have won a £10 book gift voucher to spend over the half term.

Well done and thank you to the following children:

Chif in 1NS

Ella in 2HF

Jack in 3CH

Cady in 4AF

Bethany in 5DR

Paige in 6SB

World book Day - 6th March

World Book Day will be celebrated in school on Thursday, 6th March 2025 and aims to increase children’s love of reading whilst allowing them to share their favourite authors. This year’s theme is ‘Read Your Way’ and there will be a focus on reaching all children.    Read Your Way encourages everyone to let go of reading pressures and expectations, and empowers children and young people to have fun discovering reading on their own terms.

The World Book Day organisation distributes gift vouchers and children will each receive a £1 World Book Day voucher which they can use towards the purchase of a book from a range of retailers. For more information on this, please visit World Book Day - World Book Day.

On Thursday, 6th March your child will be able to dress up as their favourite book character. Please do not feel you have to purchase a costume – home made outfits are perfect too - but please remember children will still go outside to play so they do need sensible footwear. No heels please! A separate letter has been issued with further information.

We look forward to children and staff celebrating together, sharing stories, discussing favourite authors and books and promoting a love of reading.
