School News - 14th June 2024

Summer Term 2024

Dear parents and carers

Thank you for your messages of support over the past week - you will be aware that we had an Ofsted Inspection which took place Tuesday and Wednesday. The Inspection Team were on site for 2 days and were able to take time to speak to the children and the staff about their experiences here. We look forward to sharing the report with you as soon as we receive the final version.

Despite the inspection, we have continued as normal and it was lovely to see so many parents coming into school to see the various music concerts that were held - the Year 4 Steel Drums is always a big hit and we did notice parents tapping their feet along with the songs.

Remember that the school will be closed on Friday 21st June for an Inset Day.

Art winners

Mrs Price entered Year 5 and Year 6 pupils into an art competition at Highclare School and we are delighted to announce that we had 1 winner and 3 other children whose work has been highly commended!

Winner- Paige in 5LE

Highly commended: Poppy 5KP, Grayson 6RN and Skyla- Jai in 6AY

All entries had their work displayed in an exhibition evening on Monday 10th June.

Well done to all!

Year 2 trip to Tamworth Castle

Our Year 2 pupils went to Tamworth on 6th June and this was a thoroughly enjoyable day in the sunshine. They met the Lady of the castle, who taught the children how to set the dining table for a royal banquet. They also met the squire and learned all about how to dress a knight. Finally, the children enjoyed a tour of castle, where they explored the castle dungeons and particularly enjoyed pretending to be soldiers firing arrows from the turrets at the top of the castle.

Year 6 Trip to Woodlands

Our Year 6 pupils had the most wonderful time at Woodlands today. They had the chance to challenge themselves and try new activities and although they did get a little wet, they enjoyed every single minute. Their support for each other, resilience and excellent behaviour demonstrated just how ready they are for their transition to Secondary school.

Well done Year 6!

Green Flag award - with merit

We are very pleased to tell you that we have been awarded the Green Flag award again - with merit!

Miss Colman, Mrs Colman and all our Eco Warriors are very passionate about our school being as eco-friendly as possibly and this has been recognised once again. Our feedback includes the following:

  • It is evident that young people in your school are aware of environmental issues and passionate about protecting our planet.

  • Your chosen projects in your Action Plan were based on children’s ideas and the areas they are most passionate about. This approach places them at the heart of your Eco-Schools work.

  • The curriculum examples provided impressively expand on the projects in your Action Plan, providing pupils with a deeper understanding of the eco-activities they are delivering. We enjoyed seeing your uploaded examples of your microhabitat work, it clearly demonstrates that staff members in your school are willing to go above and beyond to include these important issues in pupil’s learning.

  • Your Eco-Committee have used a wide variety of methods to inform their school community about their work, this shows they take pride in their achievements and are working hard to involve and educate all around them.

  • Your whole-school Eco-Day is a huge success! It’s clearly something that pupils will be proud of and leaves a great legacy to build upon!

  • We have loved reading about your journey and are incredibly impressed by all you have achieved. We have no hesitation in awarding you an Eco-Schools Green Flag with Merit, congratulations!
