Spring Term 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

Please could we ask parents and carers to take note of the following important reminders regarding the health and safety of your children:

School Arrival

School gates open at 8:30am. Children should not be arriving on site before this time as the internal gates are not open and the site is not supervised by staff.

No balls on site

Please also note that footballs/balls are not permitted on site. There have been a few instances this week where children have brought balls in and have started playing football on our site before school. Again, this is not permitted.

Banks and Walls

Please do not allow your child to climb on walls or equipment on our site, or run up and down grassy banks. This is for Health and Safety reasons and we want all children safe and accident free!

The most important part of the job any adult does in school is keeping your children safe. If you have any worries or concerns about safety, please let us know. You can contact one our Safeguarding leads - Mrs Watson, Mrs Arnold, Mrs Hannan or Mrs Mayou - or you can speak to Mrs Mallon our Office Manager who will direct you to the correct person.

We are nearing the end of our Spring Term and there will be events in school over the next 2 weeks including our Nursery Easter Presentations and Activities, our Year 3 Easter Service at Beacon Church, our Eco Warriors litter picking in the local community, our Spring Discos and our Year 1 Walks around the local community.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend and enjoy Mothers Day - to new mothers, step mothers, foster mothers, mothers doing it alone, mothers who have lost a child, those who are expecting, those longing to be a mum, mothers who are struggling, mothers with strained child relationships, those with strained parent relationships, those who have lost their mum and everyone who is a 'mum'. Mother's Day can be wonderful, but it can also be particularly difficult for some. Be kind to yourselves this weekend x

Outstanding Dinner Debt for Year 3 to Year 6

We have been reviewing the amount of debt from parents and carers in relation to dinner money.

Dinner money should be paid in advance and will reduce as children have their meals. We are unable to allow dinner money debt to mount up - if this happens, it may leave us in a situation where we are unable to offer a hot dinner for your child. Obviously this is not what we want, and we try to work with parents to look at ways to reduce any debt...however we cannot provide free meals to children.

If you think your child is eligible for free school meals, you check using the following link

Comic Relief - Red Nose Day

Thank you to all children and staff for wearing red last week and celebrating the work of Comic Relief. We are still counting final donations and will keep parents informed. All money donated will be sent to the charity.

Here are some pictures of Y4 completing Red Nose Day activities. The children designed a new red nose, a new mascot and completed Red Nose Day riddles.

Football Update

Last Thursday the Girls Year 5/6 football team went to Millfield Primary school to play in the Walsall Primary School Division 2 final against Bloxwich Academy. Unfortunately they lost 3 - 0. Although they played hard and showed great resilience, they were up against a team that played better on the day. They were very disappointed but displayed good sportsmanship and manners and were a pleasure to take. Well done - you should be very proud of yourselves!

Well done to the boys football team! Last Friday, the boys played in their Finals and won 2-1 against Bloxwich Academy, the same school the girls had played on Thursday in their finals. It was a very tight game but the boys showed great determination and resilience to win the game and were very excited with their result!

Well done to both the boys and girls football team and to Mr Thompson, Mr Rosser and Mrs Francis for training, organising and supporting these events!

Sending snacks into school

As you know, we are a health school and any snacks brought into school should only be fruit or vegetables. To help parents and carers with food safety, please check and follow the guidelines below -

specifically the fruit and vegetables section within 'How to serve food safely' when sending snacks in to school.

Year 5 Maths

In Year 5, children in Mrs Price’s Maths group have been calculating and problem solving with

money. In this lesson, children were given a supermarket website and had to budget when shopping for groceries in different real life scenarios. Each scenario gave children a given amount of money which they had to consider when composing and calculating their shopping lists. Children absolutely loved this lesson and were really engaged in their learning!

Parking issues

Just a general reminder to parents, carers and users of the school to be mindful of residents in the roads surrounding our school. There have been a few instances recently where parents have parked across driveways which has prevented residents from getting off their properties and therefore being late for their own school drop offs or for work. Thank you.

Holiday and Food Programme (HAF)

What is the Holiday Activity and Food programme (HAF)?

HAF is a free programme for children and young people. It runs over Easter, Summer and Christmas school holidays.

Your child is eligible if they are:

  • aged 5 to 16

  • eligible for benefit-related free school meals

The programme works with providers to develop an exciting and enriching programme of activities. These include schools, local voluntary and community groups, childcare providers and local businesses.

Programme aims

We want children who attend this provision to:

  • eat healthily over the school holidays

  • be active during the school holidays - take part in activities which support their development and wider educational attainment

  • be safe and not to be socially isolated

  • have a greater knowledge of health and nutrition

  • be more engaged with school and other local services

Walsall use a central registration process to make it easier for you to book your child/ren onto activities. This means you only have to provide your information once.

This information is shared with the activity providers.

This is so that they:

  • know who will be attending

  • can meet your child’s needs

  • can communicate with you about the activity

How to register for the HAF programme

You can register throughout the year.

Before each delivery, the Council will send a letter to your home address with a unique code and information about how to register. If you haven't received a letter or have the wrong code, email them with your child's full name and address, and they can help you.

You only need to register once for the 2025-2026 programme, and you can access your account throughout the year.

The booking portal is open from Tuesday 11 March and will close on Friday 11 April
