Autumn Term 2024

Dear Parents and Carers

It was lovely to see all the children returning from their busy half term break - and hearing about all the activities they had been involved in.

This Friday, our Badgeholders from Year 6 represented our school at the Remembrance service which took place on Barr Beacon. Ola and Alfie laid a wreath to honour and respect the service personnel who have bravely given their lives in wars and other military conflicts since the onset of World War I.

Thank you to all the parents that joined us too and thank you to Year 6 who represented our school brilliantly.

"Lest we forget"

Junior safety Officers

Our Junior Safety Officers create surveys and complete audits which are then sent to our external Health and Safety provide - Elite Safety - along with those from other schools who may also have JSOs.

We are delighted to announce that one of our students - Billy in Year 6 - has been awarded Junior Safety Officer of the Month!

He will soon be in receipt of the prize which is £100 worth of Amazon vouchers!

Well done Billy and keep up the good work JSOs!!

Cross Country Event

Children from Years 4, 5 and 6 represented the school in the Walsall cross country event at Aldridge Airport on Wednesday. They all competed well and enjoyed the event. Hayden (4AF) came 1st, Amayah (4SM) came 4th and Shelby (4AF) came 15th in the Year 4 race.

In the Year 6 race Arlo (6SB) came 1st and Joey (6RN) came 13th. Year 5 were not quite as successful on this occasion but they all completed the event and were excellent ambassadors for the school.

Workshops at the Walsall Arena and Arts Centre

If you have a child who loves performing and dancing and is between the ages of 6yrs to 11 yrs - check out these two workshops being held at the Walsall Arena and Arts Centre:

Winter Uniform

All children should now be wearing their Winter uniform  (except on PE days for Y1-6). We have the school photographer in on the 19th of November for individual photographs and all children are expected to be in full, winter uniform. Please avoid any large/colourful items in hair e.g. JoJo bows as these are not part of our uniform policy

Year 5/6 girls football team

On Tuesday the Year 5/6 girls football team played away against Castlefort. Although they did not win, the game was a lot closer than the score line reflected. It was the first game the girls have played and they played really well and kept trying hard, showing a lot of resilience. They did threaten Castlefort's goal several times but unfortunately didn't get the goals this time!

Gardening Club

Our Gardening Club are enjoying their weekly

planting sessions on Mondays after school.

They have planted a lavender bush, as well as tulip, crocus, daffodil and hyacinth bulbs. We should be seeing the flowers around March/April time - so keep an eye out!

Asda Rewards Cashpot for Schools

If you haven't done so already, please could we ask any parent who shops at Asda and uses the Asda Rewards App to select our school.  There are no cost implications to yourself and instead Asda will donate a percentage of your shopping bill to school.

You have already raised £1207.40 for the children at our school and there are 22 days left - thank you so much!

Children born between 1 September 2020 and 31 August 2021 are due to start school Reception in September 2025.

Parents and carers are reminded to apply online and are encouraged to attend the council’s drop-in sessions to receive any help or support.

If your child is starting Reception in September 2025, you must apply online between 4 November 2024 and 15 January 2025.

More information about school admissions can be found on the council’s website: https://go.walsall.gov.uk/schools-and-learning/school-admissions/apply-primary-school-place

Community Events and Family Support

Household Support Scheme

Councils across the country have been provided with funding through the Household Support Scheme. This is to support households on a low income with food and utilities whilst the cost of living is increasing.

The Government has extended funding for a further six months until April 2025. This will be used to support households struggling with bills and essential costs over the winter.

The next award is a one-off payment of £75 per child for all households in receipt of Council Tax Reduction on 1 December 2024. Customers do not need to use the existing online application form to apply for this, this payment will be issued automatically. The payment will also be made to those living out of the borough but whose child receives Free School Meals at a school in Walsall.

Further information can be found on their website at Household Support Fund | Walsall Council

Where the Council already holds bank details for you, payments will be made by 18 December 2024. For those without bank details, they will credit your council tax account.

Vulnerable customers without bank accounts who received Asda vouchers previously will receive these again.

Customers who are not entitled to a Direct Payment and are in hardship can make an application via the online claim form which can be found at https://go.walsall.gov.uk/benefits/household-support-fund

If you’re eligible for a direct payment

You don’t need to make an application if you're eligible for a direct payment. You’ll get a direct payment of £75 per child automatically if:

  • your family has children included in the household, and

  • you were in receipt of council tax reduction (CTR) on 1 December 2024
